  • SUMMER use of Classworks

    Principals and Champions,
Are you interested in making an assignment for your students for summer? Would you like for them to be able to log in from home and practice some Common Core, CRCT, or EOCT skills? Make an assignment in Classworks and send home a letter to parents about it.
There is a video, SummerWorks Assignment, , that shows the steps of how to make an open assignment for students that parents can have the ability to assist with and to monitor. This video will take less than five minutes. In addition to the video, below are the written steps and guidelines for making one of these assignments.
A letter to parents is also available for you. The letter introduces this summer learning opportunity and gives instructions on how to log into Classworks.
Steps for making summer assignment (See attached Job Aid 3.2)(Also see attached step-by-step document):
1-     After logging into Classworks as a teacher, click on the Classes tab.
2-     Put a check by your class.
3-     Click Assign, and then click Instruction.
4-     Click on the Preset sub tab.
5-     Choose a sequence you would like to assign and click in the checkbox next to it.
    6-     Then click Assign Instruction.
The assignment is now created. If you will make a few changes to your assignment it will be ready for the students to use.
1-     Double click on your class.
2-     Click on the name of the new assignment you just created.
3-     Important- Now rename the assignment and choose an icon you want. Example- Mr. Allred’s SummerWorks Math from the Common Core. Renaming will help insure that students will be able to go to the correct assignment. Another tip would be to include the name of the assignment in the parent letter.
4-     Next click on the Mode (I) button for this assignment. The mode will change to M for manual.
    5-     Then Click Save.
Your assignment is ready to use.
The manual mode option has been suggested in this assignment to allow for greater flexibility in the navigation and completion of these activities. Unlike Instructional mode, Manual Mode allows a student to choose which activity to work on or to repeat activities and quizzes if they wish (See the attached Manual Mode document for a more detailed description.).
The Classworks program will be available through July 13. After that time, end-of-year procedures will need to be processed and the assignments will be removed.
