The Muscogee County School District Spelling Bee is scheduled each year, the last Wednesday of January. It is held in the Auditorium at Rainey McCullers School of the Arts, 1700 Midtown Drive, Columbus, Georgia.
The contest begins promptly at 10:00 A.M. Each elementary and middle school are eligible to participate in the competition. Currently, forty-five contestants from 4th to 8th grade participate in the Bee. Principals, teachers, spelling bee sponsors, parents, and other family members are invited to attend the competition.
The MCSD Spelling Bee is sponsored by the Muscogee County School District and the Muscogee Association of Educators.
Awards are presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. All participants receive a Certificate of Participation and school winners receive a Georgia Association of Educators Spelling Bee pin.
The top two winners compete in the District Six contest in Fort Valley, Georgia at Fort Valley State University in the Pettigrew Center Auditorium at the end of February.
The District Six winner competes in the state contest in Atlanta, Georgia at Georgia State University in the Student Center in March.
Each State winner will compete in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. during the summer.
