The Kiwanis Club of Columbus initiated the T. Hiram Stanley Award program in 1979 as a way of recognizing and encouraging academic and overall excellence among promising middle school students in the Muscogee County School District. This scholarship was established in honor of T. Hiram Stanley who was a long standing Kiwanian. He served as the club President in 1948 and as the Kiwanis District Governor in 1958. He was a high school principal in Mississippi and a long term member of the MCSD Board of Education. Funding for the T. Hiram Stanley Scholarship is raised by the Kiwanis Club of Columbus.
