Advanced Learning Programs

Gifted education, Advanced Placement Programs, International Baccalaureate Programs, Dual Enrollment, and magnet programs are considered to be avenues for advanced learning within the district as they provide students with specific accelerated opportunities to engage in extended curriculum.

If your child is scoring well on multiple assessments, is highly motivated, and maintains a solid grade point average of a 3.5 or higher, he or she may be ready to participate in an advanced learning program. Parents are encouraged to discuss a student's proclivities with his or her teachers as they observe the child in the classroom and assess his or her work. Parents should also consider their child's learning preferences and strengths in specific areas. A student may also exhibit readiness for participation in advanced learning programs if he or she has proven an ability and a desire to move beyond the standards in a particular content area.

Students who meet the criteria for an advanced learning program may also be eligible for special education support through the 504 or IEP process. These students are considered twice-exceptional learners. The Muscogee County School District is committed to identifying these students and meeting their needs through the appropriate channels of support.
